Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 (21 oz) can cherry pie filling
  • 1 box (15.25 oz) chocolate cake mix (devil’s food or fudge cake works best)
  • ¾ cup (170g) unsalted butter, melted

Optional Add-Ins

  • ½ cup chocolate chips (for extra gooeyness)
  • ½ tsp almond extract (to boost the cherry flavor)
  • Fresh cherries (for garnish)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven – Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • Add the cherry filling – Spread the cherry pie filling evenly across the bottom of the baking dish.
  • Sprinkle the cake mix – Evenly sprinkle the dry chocolate cake mix over the cherries—don’t stir.
  • Drizzle the butter – Pour the melted butter evenly over the cake mix, covering as much of the surface as possible.
  • Bake – Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until the top looks set and slightly crispy, and the cherry filling is bubbling at the edges.
  • Cool and serve – Let the cake rest for 10 minutes before serving warm. Top with whipped cream, ice cream, or extra cherries if you like.
